Former star Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes has issued a heartfelt message for his school's basketball team following the national title game loss.

Mahomes, who starred for the Red Raiders before moving on to the NFL, was in attendance for the Final Four victory on Saturday. He was back on Monday night for the national championship game against Virginia.

Texas Tech fell a little bit short, losing to Virginia in overtime.

Mahomes is still a proud alum, though.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback issued a heartfelt message on Twitter:

"I’m so proud of these guys. I don’t care what anyone says they fought to the end and represented Texas Tech love y’all boys!" he wrote.

Well said, Patrick.

Losing in the national championship game is brutal, but Texas Tech's 2018-19 team had one of the best seasons in the history of the program. There's still plenty to be proud of.
