Patrick Mahomes was hoping to watch his alma mater make an Elite Eight appearance in this year's NCAA Tournament. But, a Sweet Sixteen loss to the Duke Blue Devils cut the Texas Tech Red Raiders' 2022 tournament run short.

After his team's loss on Thursday night, the former Texas Tech QB took to Twitter with his reaction.

"We get this dub i might see y’all in San Fran Saturday.!" he wrote before the game.

Mahomes' response to his original tweet was quite funny.

Texas Tech entered this year's NCAA Tournament as a No. 3 seed. The Red Raiders took down Montana State in the Round of 64 and Notre Dame in the Round of 32 before ultimately falling to Duke with a closely-contested 78-73 final score.

Mahomes served as the university's starting quarterback from 2014-16. He was spotted court-side at a Texas Tech basketball game in Lubbock earlier this year.
