In fact, it wasn’t until earlier today that we finally got an official name for Patricia’s new job.
On Wednesday, the Patriots released their updated coaches’ roster for the 2021 season. According to Mark Daniels of The Providence Journal, Patricia is listed as the team’s senior football adviser — taking over the role previously held by Bill Belichick’s trusted advisor Ernie Adams.
Working alongside Belichick since 2004, Patricia has an in-depth knowledge of the all-time great head coach’s strategy. After taking over as defensive coordinator in 2012, the Patriots went on to claim two Super Bowl titles (2015/2017). After Patricia’s second championship as DC in 2017, he was hired as the head coach of the Lions.
His transition to the head coaching game didn’t exactly pan out as planned. Through just under three seasons in Detroit, Patricia amassed a 13-29 overall record.
During his time as the Patriots defensive coordinator from 2012-2017 he went 62-18.
The Patriots don’t have an official coach at the defensive coordinator position. Instead, the role will be operated by committee, including Belichick’s two sons, Steve (OLB coach) and Brian (safeties coach).
With Belichick back at his side, the Patriots’ new senior football adviser will look to reclaim his former NFL success in New England.
