ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum doesn’t believe there’s much to talk about when it comes to Alabama and the Crimson Tide’s status among college football’s best teams following Saturday’s loss against LSU.
Finebaum said on Get Up! on Tuesday morning that Alabama is “unequivocally” one of the four best teams in college football this season. The College Football Playoff selection committee can take a non-conference champion over a conference champion if it feels one team is clearly better than the other. Finebaum thinks that’ll be the case with Alabama this season.
The rest of ESPN’s Get Up! panel seemed to agree with Finebaum.
However, Finebaum admitted that there’s one scenario that’ll keep Alabama out of the College Football Playoff. If LSU were to lose to Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, the Crimson Tide will be done.
The College Football Playoff selection committee would probably have to take both LSU and Georgia in that scenario, along with Ohio State and Clemson (assuming they both finish undefeated).
The new College Football Playoff rankings will come out this evening. They’ll be released at 7 p.m. E.T. on ESPN.
