ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum had a message for the College Football Playoff selection committee while previewing Saturday's Alabama-Auburn game.

Some believe the Crimson Tide need to blow out the Tigers on Saturday in order to have a shot at making the playoff. Finebaum doesn't agree.

The ESPN analyst hopes the College Football Playoff selection committee is smart enough to understand how hard it is to win at Auburn.

“I just think they have to win the game,” Finebaum said on ESPN’s Get Up! “I just think the committee is smart enough, well, I hope they’re smart enough to know that winning at Auburn is a big deal. Alabama didn’t win their two years ago, they didn’t win their in 2013, the famous Kick Six game.”

Finebaum thinks this could be a close one.

“I don’t think this is a beauty contest,” Finebaum said. “If they win the game, it shows that Mac Jones is capable. I don’t know if they move up ahead of Georgia. But they’re in position then to get in the Playoff.”

Alabama and Auburn are set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. E.T.

The game will be on CBS.
