The Denver Broncos picked Paxton Lynch in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft hoping he'd eventually be their long-term successor to Peyton Manning. It hasn't gone as planned.
After being beaten out by 2015 seventh-round pick Trevor Siemian for the starting job in 2016 and backing up Siemian and Brock Osweiler much of last year, Lynch was booed off the field during Saturday night's preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings.
It was a night to forget for Lynch, who has played in only five games in his first two NFL seasons, making four starts. The onetime 26th overall pick completed 6-of-11 passes for only 24 yards with an interception and a sack.
The fans let him hear about it.
To make matters worse for Lynch, third-string quarterback Chad Kelly had fans chanting his name when he came into the game.
Kelly could have worked his way into some backup reps behind Case Keenum, who the team signed this offseason.
Lynch is running out of time to prove himself.
