Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods have been longtime rivals on the course. They even have a $9 million one-on-one match set up for later this year.
However, the two also have a healthy respect for each other. That is pretty evident by Mickelson's comments this morning.
Both Mickelson and Woods are preparing for this weekend's Ryder Cup in France. They played together in a practice round this morning.
Woods apparently left a strong impression on Mickelson.
"I just played with Tiger today and it is the best I’ve ever seen him swing the club. It is so on plane and solid. I’ll be asking for a shot a side for our Thanksgiving match. I doubt I’ll get it though," Mickelson tweeted.
Woods is coming off his first PGA Tour victory in five years. He won the Tour Championship by two strokes over the weekend.
Combine that with his two top-10 major finishes this summer, and he's clearly playing his best golf in a while. We'll see if that carries over to the weekend and ultimately into next year when he chases his first major since 2008.
This year's Ryde Cup begins Friday and runs through Sunday. It will be played at Albatros Course of Le Golf National in Guyancourt, France.
