Longtime ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. announced some big news this week. Kiper will not be attending the NFL Draft in person due to his vaccination status.
“The NFL draft is the highlight of my year and I am looking forward to taking part in my 39th this month on ESPN,” Kiper said in the statement. “For all three days, I will appear from my home studio in Maryland rather than onsite in Vegas as I am unvaccinated from COVID-19.”
“I completely support everyone determining what’s best for their individual circumstances and recognize the value of vaccines,” he continued. “Simply put, my Covid vaccination decision is very specific to my own personal medical history.”
Kiper will be doing the NFL Draft from home, where he works out of his home office with his longtime wife, Kim Kiper.
Mel and Kim Kiper were married in 1989. They reside together in the Baltimore, Maryland area. Mel and Kim have one child together - a daughter.
Mel Kiper's wife revealed her first impression of her now husband in an interview with the New York Yimes.
"At that time, I really didn’t know what Mel did. All I knew was that he was involved with sports and that he had long hair. I was in pharmaceutical sales, the football world meant nothing to me, and I thought he’d be cute if he got a haircut," she joked.
Kim helps Mel run most of his football business.
“Oh, my God,” Kiper said in a 2014 Bleacher Report feature article. “She’s phenomenal.”
He added to The Times.
“She runs everything, everything,” Mel said. “I’d be jumping off a bridge. She could take everything and go to Switzerland.”
We'll surely be seeing Kim helping Mel this week.
The 2022 NFL Draft is set to begin on Thursday.
