After just five 2021 matches and three knee surgeries last year, 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer plans to return to competitive action at the Swiss Indoors October 21.

Federer's last match came at Wimbledon in 2021, where he was defeated in straight sets. However, his agent confirmed to the Associated Press that the Swiss-born star will come back home to play in Basel this fall.

Tennis fans reacted to the Federer news on Twitter.

"Taking a moment from all the horrid news of today to rejoice in one small thing," tweeted another user.

"Can't wait to see you grace back on courts!!" exclaimed another fan.

"Best news of the day!!!!"

"His final tournament in all likelihood," remarked another fan.

"I read retire instead of return I swear my heart skipped 3 beats," replied another.

"Roger Federer returns to ATP Tour in Basel!"

Best believe tennis fans around the globe are marking their calendars for Roger's return.
