North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell finally came off the board in the fifth round of the NFL Draft. The Washington Commanders selected him with the 144th overall pick.

Despite falling all the way to the fifth round, Howell is just grateful he heard his name called during the NFL Draft.

"God is so faithful,"

God is so faithful. So excited for this next chapter. Let’s go to work! @Commanders#HTTC

">Howell tweeted on Saturday. "So excited for this next chapter. Let’s go to work!" Howell was projected to be a top-1o pick prior to the start of the 2021 college football season. His stock unfortunately took a major hit this past fall. That being said, Washington should feel really good about being able to acquire Howell on Day 3.

Over the course of his North Carolina career, Howell had 10,283 passing yards and 92 touchdown passes. He'll get to reunite with his former college teammate Dyami Brown in the nation's capital.

It's unlikely that Howell starts this season since the Commanders traded for Carson Wentz. However, he could eventually develop into a starter for Ron Rivera's squad.
