Serena Williams entered this morning’s match as the favorite over opponent Simona Halep.
After cruising through Wimbledon, Williams showed she was back to form and ready to bring home major title No. 24.
However, Halep has been the better player through the first set and now holds a commanding lead over Serena.
Halep broke Williams’ serve twice – in the first two attempts – to dominate Serena in the early going. It took Halep just eight minutes to hold a sizable lead.
The Romanian also held serve twice to open up a 4-0 lead in the first set.
