The last few days, rumors have been swirling about Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard possibly being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.
It certainly is a fun rumor. Lillard is an All-NBA player and would be tremendous pairing with LeBron James.
It also isn’t likely to happen, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.
During an appearance on ESPN Los Angeles today, Shelburne discussed the Lillard-to-LA whispers. The ESPN LA Twitter account shared this quote from here.
“I’ve been hearing that in the wind for several months now.”

However, Shelburne doused any fire that may have started by responding to that tweet with what she said was left out.
The veteran reporter “doesn’t see anything happening” between Portland and the Lakers.
And then I said he’s got a lot of time left on his deal… no way he’d push his way out…and no fan base hates the Lakers more than Portland so I don’t see anything happening. Sheesh.

Of course, things could always change as the off-season progresses. The Lakers seem to have the type of assets to acquire Lillard, but may not want to give up its young talent.
For now, the brakes must be pumped on a Lillard/Lakers pairing.
