Urban Meyer stepped down as Ohio State’s head coach last December, suggesting he was “retiring” from coaching. A few months later, it’s starting to look like he may wind up back on the sidelines sooner rather than later.
The past few weeks, the Meyer-to-USC rumors have been heating up. But earlier this week, a report from Dan Patrick suggested that the Trojans might not be willing to hire Meyer, given what transpired in the Zach Smith saga last summer.
This week, SportsBettingDime.com released odds on whether Meyer could wind up next season. There are three teams listed, and as you’d imagine, they’re all struggling right now.
USC is still the favorite. The Trojans play Utah on Friday night, and a loss could have head coach Clay Helton in some trouble.
Tennessee is the team listed with the second-best odds. The Vols, who started the year off in disastrous fashion with losses to Georgia State and BYU, are coached by Jeremy Pruitt.
Then there’s Florida State, which has really taken a step back under Willie Taggart. The Seminoles are a program just a handful of years removed from winning a national title.
Here are the odds, which were brought to light by Tomahawk Nation.
Florida State: 9/1
Meyer has not publicly stated his desire to return to coaching, but many believe it’s just a matter of time. We’ll see if it’s by the start of the 2020 season.
