The New York Giants have gone overseas to add depth to their running back room. On Monday, the team announced the signing of international RB Sandro Platzgummer out of Europe.

The 6-foot, 198-pound back was originally signed by the Giants back in 2020. Platzgummer was a member of the NFL's growing International Player Pathway Program. The 25-year-old five seasons in Austria with the Swarco Raiders Tirol. He also won two championships with Austria's U-19 squad. Although Platzgummer has spent time on the Giants practice squad over the past two seasons, he's yet to see action in a regular season game. He was able to make a splash play in the preseason however; breaking off a 48-yard run in a preseason game against the Jets.

Platzgummer joins a stable of Giants running backs that includes Saquon Barkley, Matt Breida, Gary Brightwell and Antonio Williams.

We'll see if he can make the 53-man come preseason's end.
