John Daly will be using a cart at the PGA Championship at Bethpage Black in New York later this week. The 53-year-old golfer, who deals with osteoarthritis in his right knee, got a waiver from the PGA to use a cart on the course. He’ll be the only golfer with a cart on the course.
“I can’t walk more than six holes before the whole knee swells up,” Daly told the Associated Press. “And then I can’t go anymore.”
Walking is part of professional golf, of course, and there are many who aren’t happy with Daly’s use of a cart.
“John Daly will be an embarrassing sideshow at PGA Championship,” writes the New York Post.
“John Daly getting a cart at the PGA Championship is completely . . . complicated,” writes the Washington Post.
Tiger Woods was asked about the PGA’s decision during his press conference this morning. Of course, his response is going viral.

Woods, of course, is talking about his win at the 2008 U.S. Open, when he won the major championship in a playoff with a fracture in his leg and a torn ACL.
The 2019 PGA Championship is set to begin on Thursday.
