Tiger Woods won his 15th major this past weekend, prevailing at The Masters for the first time since 2005. With the win, Woods now sits only three major victories behind Jack Nicklaus for most all-time.
Everything about Tiger’s week has been dissected by the media – including the fact that he was chewing gum the entire tournament.
After the tournament, Tiger was asked why he was chewing so much gum during the event. His answer? He gets hungry and eats a ton during tournaments, so this helps him curb that hunger during the rounds themselves.
“Well, I’m chomping on this gum because I usually get hungry, I keep eating so much,” Woods explained. “And it curbs my appetite a little bit, which is nice.”
Other players on tour chew gum, so this isn’t some wild new idea. But Tiger’s doing it now, so people are paying attention.
Anyone who has ever walked 18 holes multiple days in a row can attest to the hunger aspect.
With the win, Tiger has answered one important question – he is capable of capturing more major titles. The next question is whether he can get three more to tie Nicklaus.
