Tiger Woods teed off from Carnoustie this afternoon for his first round in the Open Championship. He took the course to some alarm when spectators and media spotted black tape on his neck.

According to a report given by Mike Tirico during the broadcast, Woods woke up with a stiff neck. As a result, he is wearing kinesio tape which is used to alleviate pain and provide stability.

It seems to be working. Woods is off to his best start in a major this year.

Through eight holes, Tiger sits at 2-under par. He started off the round with two birdies in the first four holes, and hasn't carded anything worse than a par so far.

Woods is taking advantage of the firm fairways, carrying the ball down the fairway.

He's in good position for the back nine. Tiger sits three back of the lead as he heads to the final nine holes of his first round.
