The father of Tremont Waters, who was drafted 51st overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2019 NBA Draft just a few weeks ago, was reportedly found dead at a motel in West Haven, Connecticut on Thursday afternoon. Edward Waters Jr. was just 49 years old.
The New Haven Register was the first to report the news.
Police have not released much information, but they have announced that Waters died at the Super 8 Hotel and that he was unresponsive when they arrived. The West Haven Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police are reportedly investigating the scene. There’s no word on the official cause of death.

Waters attended LSU from 2017-2019 before entering the NBA Draft after this past season.
Waters played the for Celtics in their Summer League game on Thursday night. At the moment it’s unknown if he knew about his father’s death beforehand.
