So much for the United States struggling to find the back of the net against Sweden. It took the Americans less than three minutes to score their first goal on Thursday.
In the game’s third minute, a corner kick from Megan Rapinoe led to a scramble in front of the net. Lindsey Horan, starting in place of an injured Julie Ertz, slammed it home to give her team the lead.

The United States enters the game as the favorite to win the World Cup. In their final game, they took down Thailand 13-0. They followed that up with a solid 3-0 win against Chile.
Today’s starting lineup includes Horan, Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, Alyssa Naeher, Kelley O’Hara, Abby Dahlkemper, Becky Sauerbrunn, Crystal Dunn, Samantha Mewis, Rose Lavelle and Tobin Heath.
A win against Sweden would result in a Round of 16 matchup against Spain.
