Video: Sam Darnold's 1st NFL Pass Was A Pick-6

Sam Darnold throwing an interception.

Sam Darnold looked fantastic in the preseason, establishing himself as the New York Jets' starter as a rookie. However, the regular season is a different animal.

The good news for Jets fans? Darnold's NFL career will only get better from here, as his first real professional pass was returned for an interception.

Darnold went on a designed rollout to the right on the Jets' first play of the 2018 season. However, he tried to throw back to his left on a designed misdirection play.

Detroit Lions safety Quandre Diggs read the play perfectly, picking the pass off and bringing it back 37 yards for six points.

Hey, Darnold is a playmaker. You're going to get your share of intrceptions but he should be able to make up for it with big plays.

All in all, a rough start for the rook, but the future is still bright. He should be fine.

The Jets and Lions are currently playing on ESPN.
