It’s been nearly 25 years since John Daly last won a major. Due to the injured knee hampering him this year, it’s likely going to be at least another until his next one.
During the opening round of the PGA Championship on Thursday, Daly was asked directly about the status of his injured knee. His response?
“Like s**t,” he answered before driving off to continue his outing.
Daly’s presence at the PGA Championship was already somewhat controversial due to his need for a golf cart. That request was largely acquiesced because he was not seen as someone expected to seriously contend in the tournament.
He was +4 through his first nine holes on the day.
Daly has won two majors in his career: The 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 Open Championship.
The 56-year-old Daly has been a PGA Championship regular despite his spotty record in the tournament. Since winning it in his debut in 1991, Daly has finished no better than 18th (2012) in the competition.
But Daly has missed the PGA Championship only three times since 1992, and he was not going to miss it this year.
His last win in any golfing tournament came at the 2014 Beko Classic in Turkey.
