Just minutes ago, the 151st running of the Belmont Stakes took place, crowning a new champion.
No, there wasn’t a Triple Crown to be won on Saturday afternoon, but that doesn’t mean the race lacked for action. Last year, Justify walked out with a win at the Belmont and the second Triple Crown in four years – following American Pharoah.
Like all other years, the race took place at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York this afternoon.
On Saturday, Tacitus entered as the favorite to win the race.
However, Sir Winston wouldn’t be denied down the stretch as he bumped War of Will out of the way for the late win.

There was plenty of drama in the first two legs of the Triple Crown, as a horse was disqualified in the Kentucky Derby and a jockey was tossed from his horse at the starting gates of the Preakness Stakes.
War of Will was the horse most-impacted by Maximum Security in the Kentucky Derby, but fought back for a win in the second leg of the Triple Crown.
Kentucky Derby winner Country House was not in the race due to an illness.
Three different horses took home victories in the three legs of the Triple Crown this year.
