College basketball analyst Doug Gottlieb has reacted to the idea that Zion Williamson should sit out the rest of the 2018-19 season following his injury against North Carolina.
Williamson, a star freshman, is the probable No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and, barring serious injury, has likely locked up that status regardless of what happens the rest of the season.
So, many are telling Williamson to not risk further injury and sit out the rest of the season, including the NCAA Tournament.
Gottlieb does not like this.
“What in the F is the matter with media dudes? Obviously you never played s–t. You come to Duke to beat Carolina, win the ACC, win the ACC tournament, go to the Final Four, win a title. This idea that it all means nothing is gross. Go away,” he tweeted.

It’s a strong message, but he’s not wrong.
The ACC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament are not the same thing as the meaningless bowl games that college football stars will often sit out of.
We’ve yet to see a major college football star skip a national title game or College Football Playoff contest. Williamson sitting out of the NCAA Tournament would be akin to that.
Of course, though, we don’t yet know the extent of Williamson’s injury. The Duke star freshman might not be able to play in the postseason even if he wants to. Hopefully, that won’t be the case.
