Few people in the basketball world have a better sense of who R.J. Barrett is as a player than his former teammate in Zion Williamson.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft spent one season at Duke with Barrett, who was taken No. 3 overall by New York.
Williamson was asked this weekend to give Knicks fans an idea of what they can expect from Barrett this season.
They should like the answer.
“(Knicks fans) can expect that they’re getting a killer,” Williamson said in an interview with SNY. “For the people that are trying to look down on him, RJ’s been through worse. He knows how to battle through it and he’s going to bring the city everything he’s got.”
Both Williamson and Barrett had epic freshman seasons at Duke, though the year ultimately ended in disappointment, with the Blue Devils getting upset by Michigan State in the Elite Eight.
Now, the two will do battle in the NBA.
The league releases its full 2019-20 regular season schedule on Monday. We’ll know then when Williamson and Barrett’s first official matchup will be.
