Update: Emily Austen Won't Appear On Fox Sports' Broadcasts' After Racist Comments

Emily Austen will no longer appear on Fox Sports Florida broadcasts after she made derogatory comments during Barstool Sports' daily rundown show on Thursday.

The sideline reporter made discriminatory remarks while appearing on the show, which was broadcasted on Facebook Live but was later deleted from Barstool's page.

Among the things Austen said:

  • "I didn’t even know that Mexicans were that smart."
  • "The Chinese guy is always the smartest guy in math class."

The senior vice president of Fox Sports Florida told Deadspin.com that Austen is not scheduled to appear on any further broadcasts.

We were made aware that Emily Austen appeared in a social media video unaffiliated with FOX Sports in which she made insensitive and derogatory comments. She was not speaking on behalf of FOX Sports, nor do we condone any of the statements she made in the video. Emily has been advised that her comments were unacceptable, and she is not scheduled to appear on any upcoming FOX Sports Florida or FOX Sports Sun broadcasts.

This might seem like Austen has just been indefinitely suspended, but The Big Lead says that she is not a full-time employee, but rather just paid per appearance.

Austen was working as a sideline reporter for the Tampa Bay Rays and Orlando Magic.

"The implication is she will no longer be appearing (on broadcasts)," TBL says

The Tampa Bay Times says that Austen has has been given the boot.

"The Rays fully support Fox Sport Sun's decision regarding Emily Austen,'' the team said in a statement.
