After rain cut the racing short on Sunday, the Daytona 500 finished up moments ago. Unfortunately, there was a terrifying crash involving driver Ryan Newman just before the finish line.
Newman was in contention and leading on the final lap before spinning out and drilling the wall. Eventually, his car flipped over and continued for some time on its ceiling.
It finally came to a rest with flames shooting out of the car. Safety crews made their way to tend to Newman, who we’re hoping is okay.
Denny Hamlin wound up winning, earning his third career victory at the “Great American Race.” However, that is inconsequential compared to Newman’s condition.
Here’s the video, which we warn you is pretty graphic.

Hopefully we get some type of update on Newman soon.
Most importantly, we hope its a positive one.
Update: Newman was extricated from the vehicle and taken to the hospital, according to the FOX broadcast.

That is the only official update out there regarding Newman at this time.
