Video: Mizzou's Markus Golden Was Given An Excessive Celebration Penalty For Pointing To The Crowd

Interesting college football rules.

Missouri defensive lineman Markus Golden made the play of the game in Missouri's 38-23 victory over Toledo on Saturday. Golden picked off a pass that slipped out of Rockets quarterback Terrance Owens' hand and showed off his high school running back speed in racing to the end zone. But when Golden crossed the goal line, he put the ball on the ground and pointed to the fans in the south end zone at Faurot Field. Apparently that was too much.

What is not shown in the video is that Golden was given a 15-yard excessive celebration penalty. The foul was accessed on the kickoff and Toledo started its next drive with great field position after a long return.

Cheers from fans after Golden's touchdown quickly turned to boos after the call, which nearly everyone in the stadium found to be ridiculous. I understand why college football doesn't want taunting, but simply pointing to the crowd hardly seems excessive.
