Earlier this week, former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski signed a deal with the WWE.

It wasn't a surprising move for the former NFL star, who made appearances at WWE events in the past during his playing career. After deciding to walk away from the game of football following the 2018 season, most expected Gronk to land in the wrestling federation.

Following a year off from contact sports, Gronk is ready to step back into the ring - literally. ESPN's Adam Schefter revealed WWE wrestler Mojo Rawly confirmed Gronk will make his first appearance next week.

"WWE’s Mojo Rawley confirms that Rob Gronkowski will appear on SmackDown next Friday night," Schefter said in the message. Just over a week after signing his deal, Gronk is ready to roll.

It's fitting that Rawley was the one to break the news. Gronkowski previously appeared at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando in 2017.

He helped Rawley capture the title in the Andre the Giant Battle Royal.

Gronkowski retired from the NFL last offseason citing wear and tear on his body, but he's obviously ready for the next physical challenge.

He was a five-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro selection with the Patriots, with whom he won three Super Bowl titles.
