The United States has one more match in the famed 'Group of Death' during this year's World Cup. How they perform will determine if they will move on to play in the 'knockout stage', which is reserved for the top two teams in each pod. Team USA will take on Germany this Thursday at Noon EST. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN. The other Group G contest, Ghana vs. Portugal, will be shown on ESPN2.
As we noted earlier in the week, the US has a 76% chance of surviving the group stage, based on past results and current odds. Obviously, a win or a tie moves them on. But Team USA could actually still lose to Germany, as long as it's by a narrow margin, and reach the next stage, should Ghana and Portugal either tie or play a low-scoring, close game themselves.
The US has already surprised fans all over the world with their play in the 2014 World Cup. We'll see if they can seal the deal this afternoon and continue their journey.
