Who Does The US Play Next In The World Cup? When?

It may have taken some help from Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal, but the United States is through to the 'Knockout Stage' stage of the 2014 World Cup. USA lost to Germany today, 1-0, but survived a tiebreaker with Portugal based on goal differential - largely because of the European power's ugly 4-0 loss to the Germans themselves. So how do things shake out for the next round?

Germany won Group G, which means that they get to play the second-place finisher from Group H. USA lands in second place, and will take on the Group H winner. In all likelihood, that means Germany will get Algeria, while USA will get Belgium. That's not definite though, because that group itself doesn't finish play until this afternoon.

Belgium, which has already clinched a spot in the next round, still has to play South Korea, which they will be favored against. Algeria has a date with Russia, and just needs a tie to go through. Either way, it would look as-if USA will be playing Belgium in the next round.

Belgium, according to FIFA, is the 11th-ranked team in the world, but it's not the worst matchup the country could have gotten. The game will be next Tuesday, July 1st at 3:30 PM EST.

Should they win, they'll take on the winner of Argentina vs. Switzerland.
