There are two races left in the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series regular season, with one of those races currently taking place.

Heading into Sunday's Go Bowling at The Glen, Bubba Wallace found himself with 560 points on the season and in 14th place in the Cup Series standings.

The top 16 drivers get playoff bids, and Wallace is 18 points ahead of Michael McDowell and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who are tied for 15th, and 28 points in front of Daniel Suárez, who is on the outside looking in at 17th.

Before the race, Denny Hamlin, the co-owner of Wallace's 23XI Racing Team and No. 2 in the Cup Series standings, addressed what his advice to Wallace has been heading into the final events of the campaign.

"I think you still have to just race smart and if you get unlucky, then you get unlucky," Hamlin said, via Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports. "It’s not just about these two races … There’s 26 [races] and they all are the same. So, race three means just as much as this one. It just does. So we’re talking about five points here, ten points there. Like, there’s opportunities, that’s why it’s so hard in the Cup Series because you have to be good the entire regular season, and if you’re not, you’re going to find yourself on the bubble most years."

"Race smart" indicates that Hamlin doesn't want Wallace to cost himself by trying to do too much.

So far, just before the midway point of this afternoon's race, Wallace finds himself running ninth.
