The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue has featured several notable sports figures over the years, from Alex Morgan to Maria Sharapova to Paige Spiranac.
The 2021 edition of the magazine was a historic one, with three different covers. A sports star was featured on one of the covers, as tennis superstar Naomi Osaka landed one of the premier photoshoots.
Several years ago, former racing star turned business woman Danica Patrick posed for the iconic magazine. Patrick posed for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue in 2008 and again in 2009.
“You could actually say I was on the cover,” Patrick said in an interview years ago. “I had a little image in the top right corner of the cover. I think Bar Refaeli was the cover girl that year.”
It was an unforgettable experience for Patrick.
“I had so much fun. It was a great experience and I loved it completely. Like, I wish I was a swimsuit model because it was really fun,” she added.
Sports Illustrated Swimsuit released some behind-the-scenes looks at her photoshoots on YouTube.
Patrick, now 39, recently celebrated the birthday of her new boyfriend, Carter Comstock.
“Happy birthday to this adventurous, big hearted, deep thinking, hard working, funny, brilliant, smoking hot man! Grateful to be on the journey of life with you! …. and oh the places we have already been! 35 never looked so good!” she wrote on Instagram.
Patrick, meanwhile, is one of several notable athletes to pose for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. Alex Morgan, Genie Bouchard, Lindsey Vonn, Paige Spiranac and Maria Sharapova, among others, have all posed for the issue.
