NASCAR Driver Wants To Sport To Get To Canada Eventually
Brad Keselowski believes NASCAR should broaden its horizons by veering north of the United States border.
Per Dustin Long of NBC Sports (h/t Pro Talk), the Cup Series driver suggested NASCAR untap a huge following by going to Canada.
"There’s a big market for us there. We need to get to Canada and on an oval in Canada," he said. "I think that particular market is underserved and full of a ton of NASCAR fans that would help us branch out, somewhat internationally, while in a manner that I think we could control cost for the owners in a respectful way."
Keselowski explained why he'd prefer to compete on an oval track.
"Well, I think the layup for us as a sport is for us to find these road courses in different countries," he said. "That’s better than nothing, but that’s not the way I’d prefer to show what NASCAR is made of."
According to Sports Business Journal's Adam Stern, NASCAR has discussed Montreal as a possible host for a Cup Series race as soon as 2024. While the Cup Series hasn't had a race in Canada since 1958, the Xfinity Series competed at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve from 2007 to 2012.
Kevin Harvick, who won the first race, called Canada "a place we need to be."
