Don Imus – CBS Radio (2007)
Don Imus is a radio legend, working in the medium since 1968. Beginning in the 1980s, Imus’ syndicated show was based out of New York sports radio station WFAN, a partnership which lasted until April 4, 2007. In discussing the Rutgers women’s basketball team, which had lost the national championship to Tennessee the night before, Imus referred to players on the team as “rough girls,” and later “nappy-headed hos,” compared to the “cute” Tennessee players.
On April 11, MSNBC announced that it would no longer simulcast the Imus in the Morning show, and two days later, CBS Radio pulled the plug on the show entirely, after originally handing down a two-week suspension. After a $40 million settlement with CBS over the remainder of his contract, Imus’ show reemerged on WABC radio, where it continues today.
