Auburn Moment At No. 53 On SI's 100 Greatest Sports Moments List

Some sports moments last forever, standing the test of time.

There was plenty to fight for when No. 4 Auburn met No. 1 Alabama in the Iron Bowl at the end of the 2013 regular season. It was more than just a berth in the SEC Championship Game, they were basically fighting for a chance to play in the final BCS National Championship. But nobody could have predicted this game would be remembered for so much more.

Auburn, who had already seen magic happen on the field that year, found a way to tie the game, 28-28, with 32 seconds remaining in the game. And when Alabama missed a 57-yard field goal attempt with one second left on the clock, the Tigers once again witnessed magic in the form of Auburn defensive back Chris Davis catching the errant kick and returning it 100 yards to the end zone to end the game in shocking fashion.

It was incredible, and enough to be selected as the No. 53 best moment in sports by Sports Illustrated.

DATE / Nov 30, 2013

LOCATION / Jordan–Hare Stadium | Auburn, Alabama

MOMENT / With one second left and the game tied, undefeated and No. 1-ranked Alabama attempted a 57-yard field goal to win and secure a spot in the SEC title game. Alabama had missed three field goals earlier in the game, and this attempt came up short. Auburn’s Chris Davis caught the kick at the very back of the end zone, and returned it up the left sideline to give Auburn the win.

IMPACT / Alabama wouldn’t get a chance to play for its third straight title, and Auburn met Missouri in the SEC Championship Game. Auburn won and went on to play Florida State in the BCS Championship game, but lost 34-31.

Auburn's Pick 6 is one of eight college football moments on Sports Illustrated's Top 100 list.
