Just-Hired Nebraska Stadium Announcer Loses Job Due To Months-Old Facebook Post

It won't be the first time you've heard somebody say this, but you should be careful what you say on social media.

Recently hired Nebraska stadium announcer Jon Schuetz found this out the hard way when he lost his job - just one day after his hiring was announced - because of a months-old Facebook post, according to the Associated Press

The post, from last November, was critical of Nebraska's firing of Bo Pelini and has since deleted. Schuetz wouldn't reveal what the post said, but screen shots soon appeared online and the AP tracked it down.

It wasn't clear how the university discovered Schuetz's Facebook post. The university said in a statement that it was made aware of the post on Monday. It read: "Harvey Perlman is as (sic) disgrace. Remember this was the guy who extended Steve Pederson's contract only to fire him a few months later. When will he be held to account."

"After reviewing the post, highly critical of university leadership and, after thorough internal discussion, we visited with Jon, who was extremely apologetic and agreed with our decision that he cannot represent the university in such a public capacity," the university statement said.

Seems like quite the mess, and right before the season is set to begin, but it's hard to imagine Nebraska making any other move in this situation.
