Sporting News Releases Preseason Top 25 For 2016 College Football Season

We have another college football preseason top 25 to analyze.

With the spring season basically over, Sporting News has put out their preseason top 25 for the 2016 season.

Who is No. 1? The team that has won four national championships since 2009 – Alabama. Many might have Clemson in the top spot, but SN says that the Crimson Tide deserve it until someone “de-thrones” them.

Here’s their top 25:

  1. Alabama
  2. Clemson
  3. Oklahoma
  4. Ohio State
  5. Baylor
  6. Florida State
  7. Ole Miss
  8. Michigan
  9. Stanford
  10. Notre Dame
  11. Michigan State
  12. LSU
  13. Tennessee
  14. Houston
  15. USC
  16. Oklahoma State
  17. Iowa
  18. North Carolina
  19. Oregon
  20. Georgia
  21. Washington
  22. Louisville
  23. Arkansas
  24. Texas
  25. TCU

The conference breakdown:

  • ACC – Four teams
  • Big 12 – Five teams
  • Big Ten – Four teams
  • SEC - Six teams
  • Pac-12 – Four teams

It looks like the SEC will once again be the supreme conference in the sport, but there’s a pretty nice spreading out of elite teams this season.

The top four teams in this top 25, after all, are each in different conferences. Will those four teams end up in the College Football Playoff?
