The 5 Most Overrated Teams In Week 12’s College Football Coaches’ Poll

At this point in the year, we should just expect that Saturdays are going to feature mass chaos and a bevy of upsets. This week was no different, as plenty of teams fell and left us with a ton of uncertainty.

On Sunday, after the dust settled, we were left with the latest version of the Coaches' Poll, which featured plenty of teams moving around. Of course, when there are plenty of teams moving around, that means that inevitably, there are several overrated teams. This week's list of the most overrated squads in America could have easily been expanded to include eight or nine teams, but for now, here are the five squads in the country that are ranked a bit too high.

5th Most Overrated: No. 1 Florida State >>>

5) No. 1 Florida State

Yes, Florida State is the reigning national champion and hasn't lost a game since Nov. 24, 2012. Yes, it is one of two undefeated teams in America and yes, Jameis Winston is still a magician.

Despite all of this, Florida State does not have the resume that warrants being the No. 1 team in the country. Sure, it's admirable that the 'Noles are able to fight back from early deficits - and for some reason, that happens a lot to this team - but why is the best team in America falling behind early to inferior opponents this frequently? FSU has trailed Clemson, NC State, Notre Dame, Louisville and Miami at the half, and while the Seminoles have managed to battle back, when do we go from saying "their resiliency is admirable" to "it's a concern that the Seminoles struggle out of the gate, and when they play a really good team they may be in trouble"?

Florida State should win the ACC easily. Its next two games are against Boston College and Florida, and while both of those games are tricky, Jimbo Fisher's squad should come out on top in both contests. But when you look at the resumes of Alabama and Oregon, it's tough to say that Florida State deserves to be ranked No. 1.

4th Most Overrated: No. 13 Arizona >>>

4) No. 13 Arizona

There are three Pac-12 South teams ranked No. 12, No. 13 and No. 14 in the Coaches' Poll in UCLA, Arizona and Arizona State, respectively. You can argue that any of the three teams are overrated, but this week, the most overrated squad of the bunch is Arizona.

Let's look at what the Wildcats have done since beating Oregon and climbing into the top-10: a 3-2 record with wins over Washington State, Colorado and Washington, along with losses to USC and UCLA. No matter how you slice it, that is not the resume of a team that deserves to be ranked No. 13 in the country. In fact, that record was almost 2-3 after this week's last-second 27-26 win over the Huskies.

Should Arizona be ranked? Yes. This is still an 8-2 squad with an offense capable of hanging 40 on just about anyone. It's certainly a good team, and one that will be really, really good in a year or two. However, do the Wildcats deserve to be the 13th best team in this week's Coaches' Poll? Absolutely not.

3rd Most Overrated: No. 25 Duke >>>

3) No. 25 Duke

Duke was ranked No. 19 heading into last week. The Blue Devils lost to a Virginia Tech team that's been seriously struggling the past few months. It's baffling that they're still part of the poll.

Of course, Va. Tech deserves some credit for knocking off its second top-25 team of the year, but David Cutcliffe's squad was especially brutal in this contest. It turned the ball over three times, quarterback Anthony Boone only completed 45 percent of his passes and the Blue Devils only ran the ball for 141 yards on 41 carries. The defense played well, but it wasn't able to prevent the Hokies - which have really struggled offensively at times this year - from scoring late in the game.

Duke is a fine football team, and if it wins out, it will represent the ACC Coastal in the conference championship game. It just doesn't deserve to be in the top-25 after laying an egg against the Hokies.

2nd Most Overrated: TCU >>>

2) No. 5 TCU

This was a huge week for TCU. There were some questions surrounding the Horned Frogs after they were ranked above Baylor in the AP and Coaches' polls, along with the College Football Playoff rankings. The two teams have an identical record, and Baylor won the head-to-head matchup, so why wouldn't the Bears be ranked higher?

TCU needed to shut up the critics with a big performance against an abysmal Kansas team - and not just a win in which it coasted to a 40 point victory, but one in which it imposed its will on a conference bottom-feeder. Instead, Kansas punched TCU in the mouth and lead the Horned Frogs until the 2:38 mark of the third quarter. The Jayhawks even had chances to steal a win late in the game, but TCU narrowly came out on top, 34-30.

It's a massive dent in the team's armor, especially because Baylor beat Kansas 60-14 two weeks ago. At this point in the season, the Horned Frogs are making it difficult for the committee to justify their ranking over the Bears.

Most Overrated ??? >>>

1) No. 19 Nebraska

Listen, teams are going to lose. I know, crazy thought. But here's the thing: when you're a top-25 team going up against another ranked squad, and you come up short, how you lose is usually the most important fact that needs to be considered.

That's why the Cornhuskers are the most overrated college football team in America this week. Bo Pelini's squad didn't just lose to Wisconsin, it got completely destroyed, 59-24. The scariest part is that the game - which was a 35 point blowout - wasn't even that close. You already know that Melvin Gordon ran all over the Huskers' defense for an NCAA-record 408 yards, but Nebraska's offense was shut down by Wisconsin, going for 180 total yards and turning the ball over five times.

Coming into this week, some people thought that Nebraska may have been underrated, and would have been a solid opponent for Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship game. Instead, this week showed everyone that the Huskers do not deserve to be ranked among the top-25 teams in America.
