A lot of the blame for the Boston Celtics’ shortcomings this season are being pinned on Kyrie Irving, which is something that Marcus Smart will not tolerate.
Last season, the Celtics were one win away from making the NBA Finals. Many people thought the return of Irving and Gordon Hayward would give the team the firepower they need to clinch a spot in the championship.
However, the majority of this season in Boston was filled with question marks surrounding the team’s chemistry. Impact players like Terry Rozier and Jayson Tatum had to take a back seat at times due to Irving.
Following the loss to Milwaukee, one reporter had an interesting question for Smart about Irving’s leadership skills. Well, he did his very best to put any negative narratives to bed.
“Not one of us on this team knows what Kyrie has been through. Probably a few amount of people in this world know what Kyrie goes through. It was hard for him as well, you know, he was forced into a situation where it was business over friendships. He had to come into a situation knowing there is a group of guys that had it going before he came there,” Smart said.

Irving will be one of the top free agents this summer. Current betting odds have him signing with the New York Knicks.
Smart could see his role increase dramatically in Boston, if Irving decides to leave for another team.
