According to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, Brad Stevens wants to trade Smart ahead of the 2021 season. Stevens has reportedly become frustrated by Smart’s “unpredictable play.” There may be some justification to Stevens’ line of thinking.
Smart is an inconsistent offensive player. He scored 13.1 points per game this last season, but shot just 39.8 percent overall and 33 percent from three-point range. In today’s NBA, those numbers don’t often cut it. Smart does make up for his inconsistent offensive play on the defensive end. He’s one of the NBA’s lone old-school, tough-nosed players. He does have value, no matter how you spin it.
Stevens reportedly wants to capitalize on such value. The Smart trade rumors are spreading like wildfire within the NBA.

It doesn’t look like Celtics fans are very enthusiastic about the idea of trading Marcus Smart. He’s become a fan-favorite because of his high-intensity play. Boston may be wise to keep him around at least one more year.
Take a look at how Celtics fans are reacting to the latest trade rumors.
Don't want to trade Marcus Smart.
Of course I'll wait and see how valid this is and what the details are before I overreact.

If the Celtics bring back IT but trade away Marcus Smart I won’t know how to feel. It’d be very bittersweet for me. I can’t imagine Smart playing any where else. Also don’t see why he’s being discussed in trades anyways.

If Brad Stevens trades the heart of the Celtics, Marcus Smart, then this will be his biggest regret during his time in Boston.

If the Celtics trade Marcus Smart i promise you I’m done watching them.

Boston will never trade Marcus Smart, but if we could get him for Spencer then that’s an easy yes. Spencer is probably the better player, but Smart is an all time dawg

If Brad Stevens trades Marcus Smart he is already better than Danny

It looks like there’s three potential routes the Celtics could take here.
First would be keep Marcus Smart. Second would be trade Marcus Smart and sign former star Isaiah Thomas. Third is trade Smart for Spencer Dinwiddie.
What do you think, Boston fans? Should the Celtics trade Smart ahead of the 2021 season?
