On Monday, the Philadelphia Sixers made the decision to sign Ben Simmons to a max contract. That’ll keep him alongside Joel Embiid for the foreseeable future.
There is no question that Philly has a bunch of talent on its roster. Unfortunately, the team’s biggest stars haven’t maximized their full potential.
Although Simmons and Embiid are quite the duo in the NBA, Hall of Famer Charles Barkley thinks both have a lot of work left to do. He had some brutally honest advice for them on ESPN’s Get Up.
“Joel Embiid has got to get his fat butt in shape and Ben Simmons got to work on his game,” Barkley said on Get Up. “I wonder who has the courage to tell Joel Embiid to get in shape.”
Barkley did say that he believes both young stars on the Sixers are great. However, he still wants to see them improve their skillset heading into next season.

Simmons averaged 16.9 points and 7.7 assists per game this past season for the Sixers. On the other hand, Embiid averaged 27.5 points and 13.6 rebounds.
It’s rare to say that two All-Star players need to get better, but this scenario could be the exception.
The 76ers enter next season with the most firepower in the Eastern Conference. It’ll be up to Simmons and Embiid to decide how far they’ll take their team though.
