Lonzo Ball will be one of the most highly coveted point guards in the NBA when free agency gets underway on Monday evening. However, the fight to get him signed might already be over as the 23-year-old appears to be zeroing in on just one team.
On the NBA TV free agency special on Saturday night, Chris Haynes reported that Ball is expected to work out a deal with the Chicago Bulls once the negotiation period begins on Monday. The Yahoo Sports insider shared that unless there’s a “major hiccup”, the former No. 2 overall pick will be headed to the Windy City.
Ball figures to be in for a big pay day in free agency after having the best year of his career with the New Orleans Pelicans. The 23-year-old point guard averaged a career-high 14.6 points per game, while shooting a career-best 37.8 percent from beyond the arc and 78.1 percent from the free-throw line. He added 4.8 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game.
Standing at 6-foot-6 with a wide wingspan and impressive basketball IQ, Ball is also a strong defender. He should greatly improve the Bulls perimeter defense should he land in Chicago and give the team a reliable playmaker on offense. Although he’ll carry a hefty price tag, Ball would become an important piece of a Bulls group looking to break through and make the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Watching NBA TV’s free agency special. Well respected @ChrisBHaynes reports unless there’s a major “hiccup”, sources tell him Lonzo Ball intends to work out a contract with the Bulls. Pelicans are going hard after free agent PG Kyle Lowry.

Been hearing rumors about Lonzo Ball and Derrick Rose going to the Chicago Bulls. If they agree to go there, I think the Bulls will be in the playoffs. Think about it. Lonzo, Derrick, Zach, and Nikola V.?!?! Bulls would be unstoppable.

If Ball does head for Chicago, the Pelicans will also be scouring the free agent market for his replacement. According to Haynes, New Orleans has interest in signing Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry, which would give Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram a savvy veteran, capable of improving every player around him.
Free agency negotiations can officially begin on Monday at 6 p.m. ET. Signings can become official on Friday, Aug. 6 at 12:01 p.m. ET, when the new league year opens.
