The Detroit Pistons Have Traded For Blake Griffin
Blake Griffin is on the move.
The NBA trade deadline is 10 days away but we've already got big action.
Tonight, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news that the Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Clippers were discussing a trade involving LA star Blake Griffin. Well, the trade has become official.
Griffin and two teammates are on the way to Detroit in exchange for multiple players and draft picks.
With news already out there that the Pistons were shopping guard Avery Bradley, it seemed logical to assume he would be included in any Griffin deal. However, the Pistons are sending even more to the Clippers.
Wojnarowski is reporting that three players, a first-round pick and a second round pick are heading to LA. In addition to Bradley, swingman Tobias Harris and center Boban Marjanovic would be the players traded to the Clippers.
Los Angeles would in turn send Griffin, Brice Johnson and Willie Reed to Detroit. All in all, it sounds like a 3-for-3 deal plus two picks going to LA.
Detroit is getting the best player in the deal, obviously, but that's not a bad haul for the Clippers. Harris and Bradley are solid pieces and Detroit's top two scorers, while the 7-foot-3 Marjanovic is averaging six points and three rebounds in only nine minutes a game in a backup role.
Not to mention, multiple picks always help. The protections on those can be found below.
The Pistons are 22-26 and three games out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. This move seems to indicate they are looking to revamp their roster and make a run for the playoffs this year, plus lock up a superstar for the future. Griffin signed a five-year, $173 million contract with the Clippers this past summer.
Los Angeles, meanwhile, is 25-24 and one game out of the eighth spot in the West. Fellow LA stars DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams could also be on the move.
