Dwyane Wade is playing in the final All-Star Game of his NBA career tonight. The Miami Heat star guard is retiring at the end of the 2018-19 season and was a special addition to this evening's contest, along with Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki.
It's been a family affair for Wade this weekend, as his wife, Gabrielle Union, and children have been by his side in Charlotte.
Union took to Instagram to post a special message for her husband.
Wade will be retiring at the end of the season. He's confident in his ability to keep playing, but he wants to go out on his own terms.
“Everybody has their own vision, their own path of how or when they walk away from the game,” Wade said this weekend. “But you can’t always control it. And I knock on wood that I stay healthy, and I can walk away the way I started this season. But that’s what I’ve always wanted to do. I personally never wanted to walk away from the game when I absolutely had nothing left. I wanted to walk away when I felt it was time for me to walk away.
“It doesn’t mean my talent is depleted 100 percent. That just means that there’s something else for me to do.”
The NBA All-Star Game is being televised on TNT.
