ESPN First Take host Molly Qerim has commented on the LaVar Ball controversy while speaking to TMZ Sports in New York this morning.
Ball appeared on the popular ESPN show on Monday and made an inappropriate comment to Qerim, saying she can "switch gears" with him anytime.
ESPN released a statement on Ball's comment, admonishing it.
“LaVar Ball’s comment to Molly Qerim Rose was completely inappropriate and we made him aware of that,” the statement read, per TMZ Sports.
Qerim, who's married to ESPN's Jalen Rose, addressed the comment while speaking to TMZ.
"ESPN was really supportive," Qerim said. "All the executives had my back. Much appreciated."
Qerim says she's yet to hear from anyone in the Ball family, though she hasn't been checking her phone much.
"I haven't heard from anybody, but to be honest with you I shut my phone off after work."
Qerim added that she thinks her husband, Rose, would be satisfied with a public apology from LaVar.
A spokeswoman for the Ball family addressed the situation, saying LaVar did not intend to be inappropriate.
“[LaVar] was asked if he wanted to switch gears, in his mind switching gears was ‘changing the subject anytime’ and he said, ‘yes, you can switch gears with me anytime.’ At NO time was that intended or meant to be sexual in nature,” Denise White said.
