Skip Bayless offered his early prediction on the NBA MVP race Thursday morning.
On his show Undisputed on FS1, Bayless declared that Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook will take home the MVP hardware. Westbrook, the unquestioned star in OKC now that Kevin Durant is gone, recorded a 32-12-9 stat line in last night's season-opening win over the Philadelphia 76ers.
"I think he's got a real shot to average a triple-double this year," Bayless said. "I thought that was an MVP opening performance for Russell Westbrook last night, and I think he's going to win it."
Bayless didn't just have praise for Westbrook, however. He also threw some shade at him as well when he spoke about Kevin Durant's performance in the Golden State Warriors' blowout loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.
"Kevin was in a comfort zone. I thought Kevin played really well," Bayless said. "I thought Kevin looked serene. I thought that he looked like he was happy in his new surroundings. And I know for a fact that he's extremely happy to be away from a franchise that protected and spoiled and coddled and pampered Russell Westbrook to a fault in my opinion, and certainly I believe in Kevin's."

KD and Russ might be rid of each other, but this story line isn't going anywhere as the season progresses.
