After yesterday's trade to the Atlanta Hawks, the Carmelo Anthony Rockets signing should come through in the very near future. A few other teams like the Heat and Lakers are reportedly in the mix, but Houston is a pretty heavy favorite to land 'Melo.
According to one report, Carmelo is already admitting as much.
On Thursday evening, NBA insider David Aldridge reported that the 10-time All-Star is telling friends that he will be a Rocket.
The eventual Carmelo Anthony Rockets signing has been rumored for weeks.
Since it became clear that the Thunder would find a way to move Carmelo, who put up decent numbers last season but did not really fit well on the roster, Houston has been identified as the favorite.
In Houston, he will play alongside MVP James Harden, as well as longtime friend Chris Paul. The hope is that Paul can help influence a role change for 'Melo, who has long been a ball-dominant offensive player.
With the Rockets, Harden and Paul have that role. 'Melo will have to be more of a catch-and-shoot player.
We still have some time to wait before the signing can be made official. Once Atlanta officially waives him, he will be on waivers for 48 hours.
After that, it is widely expected that he will be a Rocket. Whether that is enough to allow Houston to compete with a Golden State Warriors team that could have a healthy Boogie Cousins at the five is yet to be seen.
'Melo averaged in 16.2 points and 5.8 rebounds in 78 games with the Thunder this past season.
