No one was happier with the result of Tuesday night’s NBA Draft Lottery than the New Orleans Pelicans’ ticket office. Video of the season ticket representatives reaction to the No. 1 overall selection is clear proof of that.
We now know why the Pelicans’ season ticket office was so excited. Well, actually, we already knew why they were so excited – Zion Williamson will sell tickets in a huge way – but now we have proof.
NBA insider Marc Stein is reporting how many season ticket packages the Pelicans have sold in response to winning the Zion lottery.
The number: Roughly 3,000 season ticket packages.
“The Pelicans, I’m told, have sold in the neighborhood of 3,000 season-ticket packages for next season in the wake of winning last night’s NBA lottery and the chance to draft Zion Williamson No. 1 overall,” he reports.
There were a couple of huge-market franchises in contention to land the No. 1 spot on Tuesday night, as both the Knicks and the Lakers jumped into the top four, but it was the Pelicans and the Grizzlies who benefited the most.
New Orleans and Memphis are both in need of a bolt when it comes to future excitement and they’ve gotten just that.
All the big-market teams and presumed tankers took a serious tumble in this unforgiving new lottery system … and the two teams most in need of a financial boost — New Orleans and Memphis — scored the top two picks.

The Pelicans will be taking Zion Williamson at No. 1 overall, hopefully pairing him with Anthony Davis, with Memphis likely deciding between Ja Morant and R.J. Barrett.
