Kawhi Leonard knows Kevin Durant’s pain – literally and figuratively. The Toronto Raptors superstar missed most of the 2017-18 season with a leg injury of his own before coming back and better than ever this year. So he had some advice for the ailing Golden State Warriors forward.
Speaking to the media this afternoon, Kawhi had a message for Kevin Durant.
Kawhi says that Durant’s focus should be on getting healthy first. Then he could focus on returning to the basketball court.
“Make sure that you come back when you feel healthy…when you feel confident enough to get back on the floor.”
Kawhi missed the first 27 games of the 2017-18 season with the San Antonio Spurs due to a quad injury. He was later ruled out indefinitely in January for rehab on the same leg. He ended up playing only nine games that year.
Durant was given the green light to start Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday. He had missed the previous nine games with a calf injury.

Despite getting out to a strong start against Toronto in Game 5, Durant tore his Achilles in the second quarter and had to be helped off the floor by his teammates.
The injury to Durant also turned the upcoming NBA free agency on its head, as Durant’s injury potentially thwarts the plans of many NBA teams vying for the All-Star forward’s services.
Durant has plenty of options available to him, but getting better is certainly the priority.
