Kendrick Perkins Has Notable Trade Destination In Mind For James Harden

CHICAGO, IL - MAY 18: ESPN Analyst, Kendrick Perkins, reports on the 2022 NBA Draft Combine on May 18, 2022 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois.

Barring a miraculous change of heart by both team and player, it appears that James Harden has played his last game as a Philadelphia 76er.

The relationship between the sides appears to be beyond repair, with the Sixers barring Harden from traveling with the team to its season opener on Thursday.

Harden has made it clear that he wants to leave the team, and it doesn't seem like the Sixers are interested in keeping him around.

On Friday's episode of NBA Today, Kendrick Perkins attempted to solve the problem by suggesting a trade destination for Harden that he believes would benefit everyone: the Los Angeles Lakers.

Perkins says that the Lakers acquiring Harden would open things up for Anthony Davis. Harden worked primarily as a facilitator with the 76ers last year, letting Joel Embiid take on the primary scoring duties.

The formula worked, as Embiid won his first career MVP award and Harden led the league in assists last season. The 76ers came within one game of the Eastern Conference Finals, losing to the Boston Celtics in seven games.

The Lakers have championship aspirations, but they're unlikely to break up their roster to bring in Harden.

Los Angeles GM Rob Pelinka built the current Laker roster through savvy trades and smart free agent acquisitions that complement their two stars in LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Breaking up a team that made the Western Conference Finals as a No. 7 seed - and doing it for a player like Harden - would be the opposite of the Lakers' current strategy.
